The HotLink Protection tool allows you to prevent other websites from directly linking to files from your website. This means that when another website is visited, it cannot load pictures from your pages - this is one of the ways for limiting the outbound traffic for your account.
An example of hotlinking would be a different website using HTML code to display an image from your site. In effect, the other website is using up your bandwidth quota.
To access the tool, click the Hotlink Protection tool icon in cPanel's main page.
In the new page that opens you can create a list of the hostnames allowed to access the resources on your website. For example you may want your own websites to be able to link images between each other without any problems. The list of such allowed hostnames should be placed in the List the URLs to which you wish to allow access text field.
In the next text field you can specify which file types you want to block on your website.
By default hostnames that are not allowed will receive a 403 error when they request an element from your website. However, if you want you can configure a redirect for these elements instead by using the "Redirect the request to the following URL" text field.
Finally, to enable the actual Hotlink protection click the Enable button at the top of the page.
That's it! You will see a confirmation page informing you that the change is successfully applied.
