WordPress Migrator "Can not download manifest file" error

This message shows when the SiteGround Migrator plugin cannot connect and download properly the information about the migration.

Doing the following things should resolve this:

  • Disable any security plugins like Wordfence on your website. These may block the SiteGround Migrator plugin from downloading the information required by it to perform the migration;
  • Make sure that the permissions of the wp-content/uploads folder are set to 755. SiteGround clients can reset their WordPress permissions from Site Tools > WordPress > Install & Manage. Choose the preferred installation and go to the kebab menu > Reset Permissions.
  • Remove any restrictive .htaccess rules or reset your website’s .htaccess file to a default WordPress one. SiteGround clients can use the File Manager tool in Site Tools to view and edit the file.

Once you do the above changes, restart the migration process.
