I am using WP Clef and have been locked out of WordPress

WP Clef is a plugin that has been previously included in our WordPress applications installed via Softaculous or the WordPress Installer in cPanel. The plugin was used to add additional security to the dashboard login page by removing the password authentication as a preferred access method.

The plugin and all support for it will be discontinued with a final shutdown date of June 6, 2017. Clef has already been released to the public via an article on the matter (for more information, click here).

If you missed their official post regarding the shutdown of the plugin, you can still gain access to your WordPress even if WP Clef is still active.

For WordPress Users who have disabled the password authentication for login to the WordPress Dashboard.

The first step is to verify that you have indeed been locked out by checking if the "log in with a password" option is showing:

If this option is available and passwords have not been disabled, you will be able to access the WordPress Dashboard and uninstall/deactivate the WP Clef plugin.

NOTE: This option will be available until June 6, 2017.

If this option is not available (or is showing but is not operational) and Clef has been discontinued, then you can follow the steps below:

  1. Access your hosting account via SSH or FTP
  2. Go to the document root of the WordPress installation and enter wp-content/plugins
  3. Delete the wpclef/ folder

Ordinary access will be restored as soon as the folder is removed.

If would like to benefit from the functionality of the plugin until it has officially been discontinued you can configure a Secure Override URL.

Clef's official guide on the matter can be found at http://support.getclef.com/article/54-i-m-locked-out-of-my-wordpress-site
