How to transfer my domain name from GoDaddy to SiteGround?

When you sign up for a hosting account at SiteGround with an existing domain name, it is recommended to transfer the domain name to us. This way you will be able to manage the domain name directly through your SiteGround Customer Area.

We will notify you through e-mail messages when the renewal date is coming. You will not miss to renew the domain name and risk the web site to become inaccessible. Also, you will be able to use the domain name with a private DNS and benefit from our Google Apps manager.

Additionally, we offer an exclusive domain name transfer offer for the major domain name extensions. Once the domain name is transferred, you will get one year of a free domain name renewal.

In the following Knowledge Base article can be found more information about the exclusive offer and the domain name transfer fee.

Here are the steps, which you must follow in order to initiate the domain name transfer.

In the following paragraphs we will provide the specific steps which should be followed at GoDaddy's end in order to prepare the domain name for the transfer.

First, you need to turn off the Domains by Proxy functionality at GoDaddy's end. This can be completed through the GoDaddy's Account Manager. Navigate to the Domain Names section->My Domains->Domains tab. Select the chosen domain name and click on the Manage link in the domains' details area. The Domains by Proxy page will be opened and you will be prompted for the corresponding login credentials. In the new page you can cancel the Domains by Proxy functionality by selecting the proper checkbox and confirming the modifications.

Next, you need to unlock the domain. Open the My Products section and click on Domains. Select the checkboxes besides the domains which you want to modify. Above the list of the domains there is a Locking link. Click on it and deselect the domains which should be unlocked. Confirm the modifications by clicking on the OK buttons.

The last step which should be completed is to obtain the domain name authorization (EPP) code. Open the My Products section and click on Domains. Pick the domain for which you need the EPP code and in the Authorization Code field click on the Send by Email link. Click twice on the OK buttons.

When the above steps are completed, allow up to one day for the domain name status to be changed and initiate the domain name transfer from the SiteGround Customer Area->Order section->Domain Transfer. You will receive an approval e-mail at the domain's administrative e-mail account. Use the confirmation link in it to approve the domain name transfer. Then it will take up to 5 business days for the domain name to be transferred to SiteGround.

If you get an e-mail from the losing registrar asking you to reject the transfer, you can simply ignore it.

How do I transfer my domain name from NetFirms to SiteGround?
    The domain name is
SiteGround is currently hosting the domain and one subdomain.
The domain name is currently with NetFirms unless I have already shifted to Site Ground. Have I?

The domain name is pointed to our NameServers, however, this does not change the registrar of the domain. If you wish to transfer your domain from your current registrar to us, there is a general guide which you can follow:

Contact your current registrar and ask them to: unlock the domain; ensure that there is no Domain Privacy/ID protection active at the time of the transfer; provide you with the EPP authorization code which will be required for the transfer.

For the specifics of the domain name transfer process, you can open a LiveChat session so that we can offer our support.

I have already subscribed for a year host-ship. My web site, is in the process of transferring from my old Host. Today I went to the old host, Godaddy, and pointed my two domains to your server, prefer to have it so while I am accessing out you hosting.

GoDaddy offers permanent domain forwarding. Would be providing the IP address on the cPanel would be enough to use my domain name here with my WordPress site?

You can sill keep the domain pointed to the NameServers of the remote host. All that needs to be done is to change the A record of the domain so that it will point to your cPanel IP here.

This way, the domain will display the WordPress website you will host here.

I want to transfer my domain from godaddy to siteground , I currently have the site hosted in siteground and the domain in godaddy with the A records pointing to siteground and works fine but we want to completely detach from godaddy.
If I do the steps in this article, would my site go down ? if so for how long ? , it says 5 days at the end of the article ?

If you detach the domain from GoDaddy, you will loose the Authoritative DNS Zone there. It means that the domain will no longer resolve to our IP.

This is why I would recommend pointing the domain to our NameServers before requesting the transfer. If you are using custom DNS zone records for your mail for example, you can add them in the DNS Zone with us prior to changing the NS.

It will ensure that the domain transfer will have minimal to no impact over your live website.
