How to transfer my domain name from Dotster to SiteGround?

When you sign up for a hosting account at SiteGround with an existing domain name, it is recommended to transfer the domain name to us. This way you will be able to manage the domain name directly through your SiteGround Customer Area.

We will notify you through e-mail messages when the renewal date is coming. You will not miss to renew the domain name and risk the web site to become inaccessible. Also, you will be able to use the domain name with a private DNS and benefit from our Google Apps manager.

Additionally, we offer an exclusive domain name transfer offer for the major domain name extensions. Once the domain name is transfered, you will get one year of a free domain name renewal.

More about the exclusive offer and the domain name transfer fee can be found in the following Knowledge Base article:

The steps which you must follow in order to initiate the domain name transfer are listed in the following Knowledge Base article:

In the following paragraphs we will provide the specific steps which should be followed at the Dotster's end in order to prepare the domain name for the transfer.

First, you need to unlock your domain name. Log in the Dotster account and navigate to My Domains Tab. Using the check boxes besides the domains select these of them which you want to be unlocked. From the drop-down menu regarding the management options which you want to perform pick the Select Unlock Lock these domains option.

Later, proceed with the obtaining of the domain name authorization (EPP) code. Log in the Dotster account and navigate to My Domains Tab. Check the corresponding boxes of the domains for which you need the EPP code. From the drop-down menu regarding the management options which you want to perform pick the Retrieve Authorization code option and click on the Go button. The EPP code will be sent to the domain owner's e-mail address. Make sure that this is a valid e-mail address and it functions correctly.

When the above steps are completed, allow up to one day for the domain name status to be changed and initiate the domain name transfer from the SiteGround Customer Area->Order section->Domain Transfer. You will receive an approval e-mail at the domain's administrative e-mail account. Use the confirmation link in it to approve the domain name transfer. Then it will take up to 5 business days for the domain name to be transferred to SiteGround.

If you get an e-mail from the losing registrar asking you to reject the transfer you can simply ignore it.
