I recently overheard my mother telling one of her neighbors that I work as a computer programmer. You can imagine my surprise, as I am a marketing person, and I have never written a single line of anything even remotely resembling a source code. But it was definitely not my mother's fault, it was me, apparently not being able to explain to her what web hosting is and what I do in a web hosting company. The thought that the situation can be similar for many of my co-workers worried me a little, because as Albert Einstein says: “You do not really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother.”
I know that each and everyone in SiteGround is a fine expert in his/her day-to-day activity, but what each of us tend to miss to some extent is the big-picture perspective. So here comes the first internal conference aiming to make all of us understand the underlying trends in our industry and the company business strategies better.
First of all, let me thank all of the people that have participated in our Halloween Social Media Challenge! We have been waved away by the huge number of positive and original comments you left in our blog, our FaceBook page, Twitter and YouTube. The total number of the posts we received in one week is itself astounding – 1118, but what really makes all of the SiteGrounders feel that their work is worthwhile, is the fact that so many people took this initiative as a chance to share some great personal experience with our company. If you're using WordPress as your favorite open source blogging platform, chances are pretty high you've already heard about the recent security flaw found in the TimThumb plugin fow WP. If you haven't - you should, cause it's pretty severe. Here is more info on that:
The security flaw isn't a core WordPress vulnerability, so you won't be vulnerable for just using WordPress. However, the bad news is that a pretty big number of themes out there use the TimThumb plugin in order to operate correctly and therefore TimThumb is included in a lot of WordPress plugins and themes, both free and paid. The result is that there is a good chance you might have the vulnerable TimThumb installed and running on your WordPress even if you don't really know about it or you don't care.
SiteGround has announced the following promotion for its existing customers: for the next one week each standard shared account that is upgraded to the PLUS version of the hosting plan will receive one year free use of the latest malware monitoring service HackAlert. Both services (Hosting PLUS and HackAlert), are relatively new in the SiteGround portfolio. They have been introduced during the summer and the current promotion aims to make more of the customers aware of these services benefits.

Here's the short story of our Customer Service offices: The first customer service office we established apart from our head office was in the romantic initial years of SiteGround, when we, less than 10 founders and enthusiasts that started the company, were doing everything ourselves. I remember with some nostalgia those times when we spent weeks doing job interviews all day long and wiring PCs and switches in the evening.
