This week we kicked off yet another Joomla webinars series – this time we partnered with our friends from OSTraining to talk about Joomla management and Joomla security. Our first webinar from the series was yesterday. Steve Burge, OSTraining founder, shared a lot of useful tip and tricks on how to make your Joomla life easier. As promised, we’re sharing the video replay in case you missed the session.
I met Adam W. Warner at Pressnomics conference this year. Almost from the very beginning he became a good friend who not only taught me the basics of golf, but helped me learn a lot about the WordPress community. As of recently, SiteGround and FooPlugins, Adam’s company, partnered because we like and respect each others’ work. FooPlugins is a place where you can find multiple useful plugins for WordPress, but the most popular one is FooBox Media Lightbox for which SiteGround customers now get 20% discount.
So, I asked Adam a few questions on his business tactics and for some useful tips based on his experience as an entrepreneur with a WordPress-centered business that could be valuable to anyone who has their own online project.
The capital of the United Kingdom hosted its first WordCamp on November 23rd with an extra day for contribution on 24th. Given the vivid WordPress community and the large number of contributors across the Kingdom it was not surprising that more than 300 people visited the event to collaborate and brainstorm together over the state of WordPress. 14th of November, what a day.. I woke up at 6am, which is extremely unusual for me. However, the jetlag and the constant beeps from the birthday wishes coming to my phone made it much easier. Yes, it was my birthday and yes, I was far away from home. To be more precise I was in Orlando and the unusual plan for my birthday included meeting few of the SiteGround customers for the first ever SiteGround Open Bar event!
UPDATE: June 25 2015. The SuperCacher service for Magento is now available only on our Cloud Hosting and Dedicated plans.
If your site cannot handle all your visitors or is too slow to display your goods & services, it would matter very little how much effort you put in creating a beautiful storefront and comfortable customer experience. We know that many Magento users have to go for expensive hosting solutions in order to avoid possible performance issues. Not with SiteGround. We are happy to have significantly increased the number of people successfully using and growing their Magento websites on a shared hosting platform with the help of our newest addition to the SuperCacher – the Varnish-based dynamic cache option for Magento stores.
SiteGround has launched publicly a new hosting program aimed at university students, faculty members, and academic organizations. The program has started as an internal initiative when SiteGround agreed to provide free hosting for the students of several university professors who were using the company’s hosting services for their personal projects. Now it has grown into a full-fledged program accessible through a separate section of SiteGround's website, located at: https://www.siteground.com/student-hosting.htm
The program has two branches, aimed at the two main target audiences — the educators and the individual students. The offer for the faculty members is essentially the same that got the whole program started: it allows each approved professor to enroll anyone, who participates in his/her course, for a free hosting account. The main new thing in the SiteGround students hosting program though is that individual students can now participate as well. Each student can get a one year full-featured hosting account by SiteGround at a highly-discounted price. The only requirement is to provide a valid e-mail with the .edu extension. Another addition to the program is the opportunity for student organizations to partner with SiteGround and receive free hosting for their websites.
“Now that we have successfully helped more than 700 students get a high-quality hosting for their university courses we are ready to move forward and extend this opportunity to the whole population of future designers, developers, and content creators to try state-of-the-art hosting solution” said Ilia Markov of SiteGround's marketing department who was responsible for coordinating the launch of the new program.
Even though it’s freezing here in Boston, what kept us warm during the last weekend, apart from the really cool RedComponent swag hats, was the great community feeling that was all around Joomla World Conference 2013! The high quality of the event organization, the wide mix of the topics, the great speakers and the opportunity to meet so many of our favorite #jpositive people made us very happy to be there. We felt even prouder that SiteGround contributed to such an outstanding event by being its main sponsor.
During the last year few university professors, who use SiteGround web hosting for their personal projects, approached us with a similar issue: they were not happy with the generic hosting solutions provided by their academic institutions and they preferred to reveal the secrets of the web to their students using SiteGround hosting instead. Of course the main bummer was the fact that the standard hosting fees were not very suitable for most of the students. So we started to work on a special Student hosting program to help the future stars of the internet get started easily without extra budget required. Today we are happy to announce the latest and improved version of our Student Web Hosting Program. Read More
