8.3 - Joomla Updates
Video Tutorial on How to Update Your Joomla Website
In the previous lesson I explained how to make sure that your Joomla extensions are up to date. It's just as important to make sure that Joomla itself is kept up to date.
There are a couple of ways to do this. The first one, if you scroll down and see in your Quick Icons down on the right just above the extension message is a similar notification to let you know that Joomla is up to date. If there is a new version that will change and you can click on the link to perform the update.
But because you are hosted with Siteground you can also let Siteground do the update for you automatically. If you go to the Control Panel from your Siteground User Area and scroll down to the Sitebuilding Software section you will see an icon called Joomla Auto Updates. If you select that you can see that the Joomla Autoupdate Manager let's you schedule your Joomla web site to be automatically upgraded by Siteground when a new version is available. Whenever the Autoupdate runs it makes a backup of your site just in case the upgrade isn't successful that you can restore from this page as well. Here we can see my site and that the auto upgrade is automatically enabled. So this way we can be sure that our Joomla web site is always kept up to date with the latest version of Joomla with all it's security, bug fixes and improvements.
