The front page of our web site is not very attractive. I'm going to make it look a little bit nicer by adding a slideshow. There are many different extensions available for Joomla.

The easiest way to find them is from the Joomla Extensions Directory. You'll find a quick link to that Directory in your administrator under the Help menu by clicking on Joomla Extensions. There's over 6000 different extensions that are available but the one I want I know is called reslider. So I am going to type that in. Here it is and if I select it I can just confirm that it is available for Joomla 3 the version of Joomla that I am using. Then I can click on the download link to download it to my computer.

Once that's downloaded return to your administrator go to the Extension Manager in order to install it. Choose the file you just downloaded Open it and click Upload & Install Once the module has been installed you need to go to the Module Manager to configure it. So that's Extensions and Module Manager. Here we can see that the module, Slider has already created an instance. If I click on it I can configure it. I need to give it a title it's suggested one and as I'm not going to show it I'm going to leave that as it is and click on this button here to make sure that the title of the module is never displayed on my web site. I now need to find the position that I'm going to use.

So I'll return to my web site and add that special url ?tp=1 I can see there is a position here called Position-3 which is directly above the content so I am going to use that one. From the list find Position-3 and select it. We then need to make sure that the module is published. Now that all that's set up we need to go to the options where we can configure the slideshow to work exactly how we want it. As with many Joomla extensions there a lot of options. If you follow the Golden Rule That if you don't know what something is don't touch it. You will be fine. I do need to add the images for the slideshow.

So I am going to click on this images link and start completing and uploading the images. I've prepared the images already but they;re on my computer. So if I click on Select and then scroll down to chose the file on my computer Select it, Open it Upload it choose it there and click on Insert. Now I must give it an ALT tag. This is essential for screenreaders people with visual impairment and also for the search engines. I can optionally give a caption and make this slide a link. But I'm not going to do that so I'm just going to leave that as it is and continue to add the additional images. So again it's Select Choose the file Start the Upload When the upload is complete select the image Insert and add the ALT tag. And I am going to repeat this for two more slides. Once I've added all the images that I need for my slides I need to scroll up and go to the Menu Assignment. We can see that by default this module is not assigned to any pages so we need to correct that.

Now so far we've only been assigning modules to appear on all the pages but I want this one to be just on the Home Page. If I select this we can see that the options are to be On all pages to be on none to be only on the pages selected or the reverse of that all the pages except those selected. I want to select the page Once I've selected that you can see all my Menu links appear All the items that are ticked the module will appear on so I need to un-tick everything but the Home page. Now I can click Save Go to my web site remove the special url and there is the slideshow.

If we move to the other pages we can see that the module is not there on those pages. Because we've set the slideshow to only appear on the Home page.
