How to install Expose Gallery on Joomla?

The installation of the Expose Gallery is quite simple and straight-forward.

First you have to download the package from the Joomlacode.org web page.

Then you should create a new folder within your Joomla directory and upload the Expose package there. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will call the folder "expose". Once you have uploaded the file there, you should extract it.

Now you should log in to your Joomla administration area and go to Extensions > Install/Uninstall.

Under "Install from Directory", in the field next to "Install Directory:" enter the full path to the folder where the Expose archive has been extracted, e.g. /home/user/public_html/joomla/expose.

Then click the Install button to install the component. If you have followed the steps correctly, the component will be installed successfully:

The last step is to change the permissions of all files in the /home/user/public_html/joomla/components/com_expose to 755. This is needed because by default the component is installed with incorrect permissions and you won't be able to log in to manage your albums unless you change the permissions to 755.

Configuring Expose Flash Gallery

Once you have installed Expose, you can configure it from your Joomla admin area > Components > Expose Gallery > Configuration.

Here you can change the General configuration, as well as the settings for Navigationbar, CollectionList, ImageStrip, Album, Fonts, Image conversion.

Of course, you can leave the default configuration and your gallery will still work without any problems.

Creating a new album and adding pictures to it

You can create a new album by going to your Joomla admin area > Components > Expose Gallery > Manage Albums.

Once you go there, you will have to enter the manager password. By default, the password is "manager" (without the quotes). However, it is strongly recommended to change the password asap.

When you log in, you will see your existing albums, as well as the photos and videos in them. To create a new album, click the [Create album] button. In the pop-up window enter the name of the album and its parent folder.

Once you create the album, it will appear in the "Albums" box.

To upload a picture, select the album where you wish to upload it and click on [Upload photos]. Choose a picture from your computer and then click [Upload] to upload it to the folder.

Now when you go to your gallery on your Joomla frontpage, the new album will be available, along with the picture you uploaded to it :)

Adding a menu item with your gallery

You can add a menu link on your Joomla website to your Expose gallery by creating a new menu item for it.

This can easily be done from the Joomla admin area > Menu > Main Menu (you can publish the menu item in any other menu you want) > New.

Click on "Expose" for a menu item type.

On the screen, type in the name of the menu link, e.g. "Gallery", type in an alias, choose a parent item and click [Save] to publish your new menu item.

Then go to your front page and refresh it. The new menu item will appear :)
