jAutoUpdate is a component that allows you to check for new Joomla 1.5 version and update your website with a single click of the mouse. The component saves you a lot of time as it automatically updates your Joomla application to the latest 1.5 version whenever you decide this is needed. This is a must-have component for those of you who want to keep their sites updated and secure at all times. Note that you cannot use this component to upgrade Joomla 1.0 to Joomla 1.5, it can update your Joomla 1.5.10 to the latest 1.5 version.

jAutoUpdate Installation

The SiteGround Auto-update Joomla component can be installed in the same way as every standard Joomla 1.5 extension.

First, the extension package should be downloaded on your local computer. In order to do this press the Download button above and follow the instructions.

Next, login to your Joomla 1.5 administrative area and navigate to the Extensions -> Install/Uninstall page.

In this page, click on the Browse button and locate the extension package on your local hard drive. Then click the "Upload File & Install Button". The component will be installed and added to your Joomla application.

jAutoUpdate Usage

You can find the home page of the component in Joomla admin backend. There from the top menu click on Components -> jAutoUpdate.

jAutoUpdate component has 3 possible options you can chose from.

• Version Check: - This is the first button you should click when using this component. It checks for the latest Joomla 1.5 version available and compares it with your current one. If there is a newer version than yours, a button for automatic update will appear.
• Update Joomla: - This option will show only if you are not using the latest Joomla version. By clicking on it the appropriate patch file will be used to update your version to the newest available. Thus only the changed files between the two versions will be updated.
• Forced update: - This option will download a fresh Joomla installation and will overwrite all your existing Joomla system files. Although your website content should not be affected by such update, it is not recommended in a normal situation. It could be used to solve severe problems with corrupted core Joomla files.
